We were fortunate to arrive in Chiang Mai in conjunction with an UNESCO world heritage festival honoring a famous monks 150th birthday in the Wat Chedi Laing temple complex across the street from our hotel. Free books written by the Monk, food, coffee, ice cream, and music were all given to all with smiles!

Seating for VIP monks. Looks like they got quite a bit of swag, including new robes, books etc.
Men only allowed in the Temple.
