This was an overnight excursion to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. It’s a three hour drive to Chiang Rai and we stopped and visited the White Temple and the Black House artist complex on the way. After spending the night in Chiang Rai we headed north to visit three hill tribes and the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Burma converge.
White Temple. Created in 1997 by a wealthy Thai artist, the modern complex is still under construction.
Black House. This is another artist complex created by again another wealthy Thai artist.

Locals are encouraged to grow coffee instead of poppies.
