Views from our room in Mürren
Start of the cow parade in Mürren. Farmers put the largest bell on its prized cow, the one in front. Not because she’s the prettiest but because she produces the most milk/$$$ for the farmer. Twice a year they parade their cows up and down the mountains. Yesterday they were bringing them down because all the grass in higher elevations will soon be covered in snow. So they’ll be in pastures in the valley
They hang the large ornamental bells on the side of the barns until they need them again in about six months. Once at their new pastures they’ll get smaller bells that aren’t so heavy. If a farmer is too late bringing down the cows down they’ll sometimes put them on the aerial cable cars
