Angkor was the capital city of the Khmer Empire which flourished from approximately the 9th to the 15th centuries. The city houses the magnificent Angkor Wat, Cambodia's most popular tourist attraction. The ruins of Angkor are located amid forests and farmland north near Seam Reap. The temples of the Angkor area number over one thousand, ranging in scale from nondescript piles of brick rubble to Angkor Wat-the world's largest single religious monument.

Instead of going to Angkor Wat for sunrise we climbed the hill to Phnom Bakheng Temple for a less crowded view.
