Ephesus, Turkey

Ephesus was a recipient city of one of the Pauline epistles and one of the seven churches of Asia addressed in the Book of Revelation. The city was also famous in its day for the nearby Temple of Artemis (completed around 550 BC), which has been designated one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

On the way we first stopped at Kusadasi, a city believed to be the birthplace of Homer

Our personal guide

We got up early and took a cab and got to Ephesus just as they opened. We had the whole place just to ourselves for about 90 minutes before the tour buses arrived

Terrace houses for the wealthy. Some were as large as 6000 ft.².

Nearby St. John’s Basilica. If it were reconstructed, it would be the six largest church in the world today.
