Guayaquil, Ecuador

We’ve officially swapped the snow and ice of Ushuaia—the southernmost city and gateway to Antarctica—for the tropical heat and humidity of the Guayaquil, Ecuador. From glaciers to the Gateway of the Galápagos... what a wild change of scenery!

Long travel day

Love all the many statues throughout the city, too many to post here, but I’ll post a few

Red-masked parakeet, there were dozens all over this building

Local market all the people are so friendly

Hoppy's favorite rice

I wish I didn’t have a big breakfast and lunch plans. I would’ve certainly eaten ceviche at this counter

This gondola is not really a tourist attraction but a local transportation. We took this round-trip four stops for a total of $2.22, which is inflated for tourists

Cocoa processing bins, where the beans are fermented

Coco drying racks

Our wonderful host who also fed us lunch
