Samarkand, Uzbekistan

Our last stop in Uzbekistan. Off to Turkey next. Samarkand is another UNESCO World Heritage site

Nice ladies agreed to pose for me

Visiting a ceramic workshop

This mill is used to grind minerals into glazes

This donkey only works one day a month, grinding the glazes

The crowning jewel of Samarkand, Registan Square once served as the central plaza

Saint Daniel's Tomb (only his arm bone). The reason it is so long is because his arm bone kept growing after death

Shakhi-Zinda complex (The Living King). Flanking either side of its massive central stairway are some 20 buildings and tombs

Children dressed up for Navruz holiday (vernal equinox)

Bibi-Khanym Mosque

Another great sprawling market
