Luxor, Valley of Kings and Queens, Karnak; Egypt

Cruising the Nile. Hot air balloon ride over Luxor. Valley of Kings and Queens. Karnak, Luxor, Dendera, and Abydos Temples, phew!

Our ride for our 3-day Nile cruise

These enterprising Nile river “cowboys” lasso passing tourist cruise boats to sell their wares. They throw bundles of goods to the top deck and negotiate prices. Throw back the ones you don’t want

You can see eight of these cowboy boats attached to another cruise ship near us

We landed in this field

Luxor Temple, built of sandstone over 3400 years ago. The matching obelisk that was next to this one is now in Paris.

Avenue of Sphinxes, also known as Rams Road is a 1.7 mile long avenue which connects Karnak Temple with Luxor Temple with more than 1050 sphinx and ram-headed statues lined up on both flanks. The first trace of the avenue was discovered in 1949, with the last few discovered in 1964

Every temple and monument has a shopping gauntlet that must be passed through. Charlotte wore sunglasses and her hat pulled down, and was rarely asked to buy goods or provide tips. I acted as body guard

Don’t know how they got these two fat cows in this one little pick up truck

Abydos Temple was a very bumpy 3-hour ride from Luxor. But we were rewarded with a completely deserted beautiful temple.

We saw one of these tuk-tuk trucks with almost twice as many eggs however, we were unable to get a picture of it, but you get an idea of what it must’ve looked like

Public water fountain, was being used all the time and had to wait for a moment to capture this picture. No, we did not drink from the cup, or the faucet

You name it and we’ve seen it for sale off either a donkey cart or a tuk-tuk, including a dress shop.
