Kazbegi, Georgia

Took a day trip north from Tbilisi into the Caucasus Mountains to Kazbegi, where we saw historic churches, spectacular mountain scenery, and even stopped for a honey tasting along the way

Ananuri Fortress and Church complex, overlooking the beautiful Aragvi River

Jinvali water reservoir

Grapes on the church building let you know how important wine was/is to the Georgians

Honey lady gave us free samples of several of her products. She’s a world champion equestrian rider too!

She’s still competing

These were quite good!

Not so much for the coffee and coke mix

Lunch was chicken skewers

And kupati with mertsvi - basically pork sausage and mashed potatoes with Georgian cheese

Friendship Monument, constructed by Russia commemorating Georgia and Russia relations (at the time

Gergeti Church, 10 miles from the Russian border

Roadside halal meat stand

Travertine falls on the side of the road

Very clear water, locals were drinking from it

Hoppy’s ready to roll back to Tbilisi
